Do I Need to Find My Own Students for Online Trinity CertTESOL Teaching Practice?

No. If you enrol on TesolTree’s Fully Online Trinity CertTESOL, you do not need to find your own students. TesolTree arranges real English-language learners for all 60-minute live online teaching-practice sessions. You book an available class, prepare your lesson with trainer guidance and teach while a trainer observes you. If you already work as a teacher, you may be able to use your own students instead, provided the arrangements meet Trinity’s requirements and are approved by your TesolTree trainer.

Why Does Trinity CertTESOL Require Teaching Practice With Real Learners?

Every Trinity CertTESOL trainee must complete at least six hours of supervised teaching practice with real English-language learners. Trainees also observe experienced teachers and receive structured feedback from tutors and peers.

The teaching practice is therefore not a role-play with other trainees pretending to be students. You plan and deliver lessons for people who are genuinely learning English. This gives you experience responding to real questions, different personalities and the unexpected moments that naturally occur during a lesson.

Who Arranges the Learners for TesolTree’s Fully Online Course?

For the standard Fully Online route, TesolTree arranges the learners for every teaching-practice session. You do not need to advertise for students, ask friends to attend or already be employed by a school.

Your six observed hours are completed through 60-minute live online classes. Learner groups may include teenagers and adults. Across the programme, you will teach learners at more than one level, although each group is arranged at a broadly similar level.

Available classes appear in TesolTree’s Calendly booking system. You select a suitable session and then receive a booked appointment schedule with a Zoom link for the class. This offers scheduling flexibility while ensuring that the class, learners and trainer observation are coordinated.

What Are You Responsible for as the Trainee?

TesolTree arranges the learners, but you remain responsible for preparing and teaching each lesson. Before teaching a class, you submit your lesson plan to your trainer, who works with you to prepare and improve it before the session.

You must also prepare suitable materials, check your equipment and internet connection, attend on time and teach the class yourself. Afterwards, you reflect on your teaching and use the feedback to prepare for your next session. This cycle of planning, teaching, feedback and improvement is an important part of the course.

Can You Use Your Own Students Instead?

If you already work as a teacher, you may be able to complete all six teaching-practice hours with your own students. You will be able to speak to your TesolTree trainer before arranging any lessons because the class must meet Trinity’s teaching-practice guidelines. These guidelines include having at least five students who can speak some English, teaching the class yourself without help from someone else, and focusing on an ESL topic.

The class will either be observed live by a trainer, or recorded for later. If recorded teaching is approved, your trainer will explain the submission process and the relevant Moodle guidance.

What If You Have Never Taught Before?

Not having a school, private students or an existing teaching job will not prevent you from completing TesolTree’s Fully Online teaching practice. This is a recurring concern among applicants, particularly career changers and people preparing for their first teaching role.

TesolTree manages the learner arrangements so you can devote your time to lesson preparation and development. You still take responsibility for the lesson, but you do not have to build a student network before beginning the practical part of the course.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the online teaching-practice students real learners?

Yes. They are genuine English-language learners, not other trainees acting as students.

How many online teaching-practice sessions will I complete?

Fully Online trainees complete six observed sessions of 60 minutes each, providing the six required teaching-practice hours.

What happens if too few learners attend?

A class with fewer than the required number wouldn’t be able to count towards your teaching-practice hours. If this was to occur, you would be able to book and teach a replacement session.

Can I choose teaching-practice times around work or other commitments?

You can select a suitable class from the sessions available in TesolTree’s online booking system.

You can complete the qualification remotely without finding your own students or travelling to Thailand. Explore our Fully Online Trinity CertTESOL to learn how the two course stages, online teaching practice and trainer support work.
